Bhubaneswar, Sept 12: At a time when Monkey Pox has emerged as a global concern now, Srcub Typhus infection has brought worries in Odisha’s Bargarh district.
During this week, the rare disease has claimed at least four lives, including the Scrub Typhus positive patient who succumbed to the virus infection on Thursday.
According to sources, a person who was tested positive for the Scrub Typhus virus a few days ago, reportedly died in a private healthcare centre today.
Apart from it, a score of patients suffering from the fatal disease are under medical care in several health providers, the sources added.
According to Director of Public Health Dr Nilakantha Mishra, three deaths have been reported so far due to suspected Scrub Typhus. We have set up district public health laboratories in every district to expedite testing Scrub Typhus.
Dr Mishra assured public not to be panic for the outbreak. He asserted that the Scrub Tyuphus infection can be controlled if treated in the preliminary stage.
Notably, over 2,800 cases of scrub typhus were reported from various districts of Odisha last year. The disease had claimed at least eight people in the state in 2023.
