Sundargarh, Sept 24: The number of scrub typhus cases continues to rise in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, with the total number of confirmed infections crossing 1,000.
According to health officials, more than 6,000 blood samples have been tested so far, with 1,012 people found positive for scrub typhus. Health authorities are conducting tests on more than 100 to 200 blood samples every day as part of ongoing surveillance.

The steady rise in cases has raised concerns among health officials and residents. To contain the spread of the disease, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and medical teams are conducting awareness drives across villages.
People are being advised to take precautions while visiting forests and agricultural fields, including wearing full-sleeved clothing and avoiding direct exposure to areas where mites may be present. Residents have also been urged to seek medical attention promptly if they develop a fever.

Meanwhile, the district health department is closely monitoring the situation. Sundargarh Chief District Medical Officer Suresh Chandra Mohanty said the department is keeping a close watch on the spread of scrub typhus and taking necessary measures to control the disease.
