New Delhi, March 9: In a bid to curb hoarding and black marketing, the Indian government has extended the LPG gas cylinder booking period from 21 to 25 days. Government sources revealed that the decision was prompted by the discovery that some consumers, who previously booked cylinders every 55 days, were now booking them every 15 days.

In response, the government has instructed refineries to ramp up LPG production and ensure that domestic consumers are given priority over commercial connections. “Domestic consumers will always be a priority,” sources emphasized.

As part of efforts to bolster LPG supply, India is exploring new international partners, with countries such as Algeria, Australia, Canada, and Norway offering to supply LPG to India.

Regarding fuel prices, government sources assured that petrol and diesel prices in India are unlikely to rise unless crude oil prices exceed USD 130 per barrel. “India has adequate stock, and we expect crude oil prices to hover around USD 100 per barrel,” one source mentioned. There are no expected shortages of petrol or diesel at pumps across the country.

Additionally, India is diversifying its crude oil supply routes, accelerating efforts to secure sources outside the Strait of Hormuz. On Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), sources confirmed that India has ample reserves, being both a producer and exporter of ATF, so there is no need for concern. “India is in a stronger position compared to many other countries,” they added.
