Cuttack, Sept 12: The SCB Medical College and Hospital, commonly known as SCB Hospital, authorities have formed three special squads to check irregularities in free medicine distribution to patients.

Each squad comprises one doctor, one pharmacist, a hospital manager, and a few other staff.

The squads will conduct surprise visits to different wards, OTs, and ICUs to check the proper supply of free medicines to patients.

Records of all departments and BSKY centres will be matched with the records of the medical store in three phases to bring transparency in free medicine supply to patients, informed the hospital administration.

If any irregularities are found, then the doctors, ward in-charges, nurses, OT, and ICU in-charges will be responsible for it.

The squads have been formed following reports that some staff are engaged in selling the leftover free medicines and other materials of patients to outside medicine stores.

The recent audit report revealed that during the Covid pandemic and thereafter some costly injections were widely used in several departments of the hospital, which were sold in the open market after being issued in the name of poor patients.

Similarly, it is alleged that the prescriptions of BSKY patients contain unnecessary medicines.
