New Delhi, July 12: With a significant lead in Delhi Excise kickback case, the Supreme Court on Friday granted interim bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
A two-judge bench of the Supreme Court, led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, granted interim bail to Kejriwal hearing his pleas.
It’s a major reprieve for Kejriwal as the ED had raised objection of the bail pleas in the Delhi High Court recently.
The Apex Court in its Order while granting the CM bail, noted that Kejriwal had already been incarcerated for over 90 days and acknowledged his status as an elected representative.
The SC bench also referred Kejriwals petition challenging his arrest and remand by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the excise case to a larger bench.
Worth mentioning, the same bench of the SC led by Justice Khanna, had earlier granted interim bail to Kejriwal until June 1, instructing him to surrender after the bail period ends.
