Madras HC Clears Hurdles for Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan

Fans of Thalapathy Vijay have a major reason to celebrate this Friday. In a significant legal development, the Madras High Court has directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue a U/A 16+ certificate for Vijay's highly anticipated film, Jana Nayagan. This order comes as a massive relief to the makers and the actor’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), following days of uncertainty and a sudden postponement of the movie's release.

Justice PT Asha presided over the hearing and mandated the censor board to grant the necessary certification. The intervention was sought after KVN Productions and the TVK legal wing faced delays that forced them to push back the film's original January 9 release date. Indra Dhanraj, joint coordinator for TVK's state legal wing, confirmed that a writ petition was filed earlier this week regarding the non-issuance of the certificate.

According to legal representatives, the court's decision prevents further loss for the stakeholders, as 27 scenes have reportedly been cut to meet compliance. However, reports suggest the CBFC may challenge this verdict before the Chief Justice’s Bench, keeping some suspense alive.

Despite potential future appeals, the immediate reaction on the ground has been euphoric. Visuals from Chennai show advocates and fans distributing sweets and dancing outside the High Court, marking the verdict as a victory for Jana Nayagan.

This film holds special significance as it is touted to be Thalapathy Vijay's final cinematic outing before he plunges full-time into politics for the 2026 assembly elections. While the new release date is yet to be announced by KVN Productions, this legal win clears the biggest roadblock standing in the way of the film hitting screens across India, including for eager audiences in Odisha.
