Puri, August 23: Today marks Saptapuri Amavasya, an auspicious occasion observed on the new moon day of the Bhadra month. At the Jagannath Temple in Puri, Lord Jagannath was offered the traditional Saptapuri Bhog as part of the special rituals associated with the day.
For this occasion, special arrangements were made inside the temple. After the completion of the Lord’s daily rituals and dressing, water was sprinkled in the sanctum and the Tera Bandha was performed. Thereafter, the Saptapuri Bhog was brought from the Rosha Ghar and offered along with the morning incense rituals. The temple priests performed worship following the Shodasha Upachara.
In the evening, following the Sandhya Dhupa rituals, Lord Jagannath’s Bije Pratima will be ceremoniously taken to Shri Narayan Sagar for the Bije ritual.
As part of the preparations, the sacred palm leaves required for the Saptapuri Bhog was brought yesterday from Maa Alamchandi Temple near Atharanala to Srimandir.
