Sanjay Dutt revisits ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ on Gandhi Jayanti, says ‘some values never go out of time’

Mumbai, October 2: Actor Sanjay Dutt marked Gandhi Jayanti by paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi through a special social media post featuring a collection of clips from his popular film Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

The 2006 film, which brought Gandhian principles such as truth and non-violence into a contemporary setting with humour and emotion, remains closely associated with the concept of “Gandhigiri” in popular culture. Through the video snippets, Dutt revisited some of the film’s memorable moments while commemorating Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

“Some values never go out of time. Remembering Mahatma Gandhiji and the ideals of truth, peace and compassion that continue to inspire generations. Happy Gandhi Jayanti,” Dutt wrote.

A sequel to the hugely successful Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., Lage Raho Munna Bhai follows the life of Munna Bhai, played by Dutt, whose world changes when he begins seeing the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi. Guided by Gandhi’s teachings, Munna embraces truth, non-violence and compassion, giving rise to the idea of “Gandhigiri”.

What begins as a personal transformation gradually influences those around him. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film blended humour, emotion and social commentary to present Gandhian ideals in a contemporary context.

Mahatma Gandhi, also known as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat. Gandhi Jayanti is observed every year on his birth anniversary. The day is also observed globally as the International Day of Non-Violence after the United Nations designated October 2 to promote the message of non-violence associated with Gandhi’s philosophy.

Gandhi was a prominent leader of India’s freedom movement and played a pivotal role in several major campaigns, including the Salt Satyagraha and the Quit India Movement.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Sanjay Dutt was last seen inAakhri Sawal. The film is directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Abhijeet Mohan Warang and presented by Nikhil Nanda. It is produced by Nikhil Nanda and Sanjay Dutt, with the story, screenplay and dialogues penned by Utkarsh Naithani.
