Cuttack, Jan 14: In a shocking case of child trafficking, Bhandaripokhari police rescued a one-month-old infant girl, who had been sold by her father for ₹35,000 to repay family debts. The child was recovered from Cuttack and admitted to a hospital for medical examination. Following the health check-up, she will be presented before the Mangal Committee.

According to the complaint, the father and mother-in-law took the infant out of the house on Monday morning, claiming it was for medical treatment. When they returned home in the evening, the child was missing. Upon questioning, the family allegedly responded with abuse and threats.

The grandmother suspected that the father, mother-in-law, and another relative had sold the infant. Acting on her complaint, the police registered the case (No. 17/26) and launched an investigation.

Under the supervision of Station Officer Rajalakshmi Nayak, the Bhandaripokhari police successfully rescued the child from the Rajabagicha area of Cuttack. The accused father and mother are now in police custody, and further investigation is underway.
