Delhi, Aug 23: The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Firday imposed a penalty of Rs 90 lakh on Tata Group-owned Air India Limited for operating a flight with non-qualified pilot who was a Line Captain.
Apart from it, a penalty of Rs 6 lakh and Rs 3 lakh respectively was imposed on the Director, (Operations) and the Director (Training) of Air India for the safety lapses. The concerned pilot has also been warned to exercise caution to prevent such occurrences in future.
According to the DGCA sources, the Air India operated flight on July 10 was caught commanded by a non-trainer line captain paired with a non-line-released first officer. The incident came to the notice of DGCA through a voluntary report submitted by Air India on July 10.
Acting on it, taking cognizance in this connection, the DGCA conducted a comprehensive investigation into the matter that revealed a serious security breach of the air operator.
