Nuapada, Nov 9: As the campaign period for Nuapada by-poll comes to an end today, State BJP President Manmohan Samal today said balanced and comprehensive development of Nuapada is not merely a promise but a firm commitment of the party.

The Nuapada Assembly by-election is set to take place on November 11.

Addressing a press conference here, Samal criticized both the Congress and the BJD, saying that despite ruling Odisha for over 75 years combined, they have little to show for the people of Nuapada.

Samal called upon these parties to introspect and present their record of achievements before the public, rather than misleading voters with baseless accusations.

“Playing with people’s emotions and indulging in cheap politics to cross the electoral river of success is unacceptable,” he stated.

Samal also urged BJD president and leader of opposition Naveen Patnaik to personally campaign in Nuapada and showcase his government’s real achievements.

On the occasion, Samal also reminded that during the last general elections, the people of Odisha had given 20 out of 21 parliamentary seats to the BJP, allowing the party to form a government on its own in the state for the first time.

Out of the 21 election promises made, 11 have already been fulfilled, and the rest will soon be implemented, he assured.

Highlighting major achievements, Samal stated that under the Subhadra Yojana, around 75,000 women and families in the Nuapada region have benefitted, while more than 45,000 farmers are receiving ₹3,100 per quintal of paddy directly into their accounts. Additionally, senior citizens and differently-abled persons are being provided with monthly pensions of ₹3,500.

The state government has set a target to provide irrigation to 15 lakh hectares of agricultural land, with ₹800 crore sanctioned specifically for Nuapada. Khariar Road has been upgraded to a Municipality, while Komna has been declared a Notified Area Council (NAC). A Sub-Registrar office has also been inaugurated in Komna, he said.

Samal said Chief Minister has announced development projects worth ₹1,421 crore for Nuapada, focusing on tourism, irrigation, and other key sectors. The district will soon become a hub for fish farming with the establishment of a Fisheries College.

Nuapada Railway Station is set to be transformed under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, and the land acquisition process for the Bargarh–Nuapada railway line is in its final stage, the BJP president informed.

Priority will also be given to agro-based industries and medicinal plantation in Sunabeda. An ultra-modern bus terminal is under construction at Khariar Road, and a sports complex is being developed to promote youth activities. To improve public convenience, a Rail Overbridge (ROB) will soon be established, Samal added.

On the occasion, independent candidate Sukhadeba Dandasena joined the BJP in the presence of party state unit president Manmohan Samal.
