Chandigarh, Jan 3: Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has announced that Rs 2,000 per month and free eight cooking cylinders per year will be provided to women homemakers if his party is voted to power in the upcoming Punjab elections. Sidhu also went on to lure the voters with promising two-wheelers to girls taking admission in colleges for further studies, Rs 20,000 to those passing 12th class, Rs 15,000 to the ones passing 10th standard, and Rs 5,000 to the others passing fifth grade. Sidhu made these promises while he was present in a rally organised in Punjab's Barnala district and was seen stressing the need for empowering women in the state. "Women homemakers will be given Rs 2,000 per month and eight (LPG) cylinders free by the Punjab government," he said. “As an incentive, girls who pass class 10th standard will be given 15,000, and girls after passing 12th standard and wish to go to colleges for higher studies will be given Rs 20,000,” he added. The Congress leader also went on to promise several other perks for the women like computers for girls for pursuing higher studies, two-wheelers to enable girls to go to college, transfer of properties in the name of women without charges. He also promised to set up 28 skill development centers for women across the state. Meanwhile, Navjot Singh Sidhu seems to be leading the race of luring voters with promises of freebies as he virtually outdid the promises of the Aam Admi Party. AAP’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal had earlier promised Rs1000 to all the women in Punjab and 300 units of free domestic power every month if his party is maid victorious in the poll-bound state.
