The Ministry of Railways has announced that the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) will facilitate over 50,000 appointments during the financial year 2025–26. Already, more than 9,000 candidates have received appointment letters in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
Large-scale recruitment drive underway
Since November 2024, the RRBs have conducted Computer Based Tests (CBTs) for over 1.86 crore candidates across seven different recruitment notifications, covering a total of 55,197 vacancies. This marks one of the most significant recruitment efforts in recent times, aimed at filling more than 50,000 positions within the year.
Enhanced accessibility for candidates
Recognizing the logistical challenges of conducting CBTs at this scale, the RRBs have taken proactive steps to improve access for examinees. Exam centres are now being allocated closer to candidates’ places of residence, with special consideration given to female candidates and individuals in the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) category.
This initiative has led to the addition of new exam centres and increased staffing, ensuring that the recruitment process remains fair, transparent, and inclusive.
Ongoing and future notifications
As per the annual recruitment calendar, twelve notifications have been issued since 2024, accounting for 1,08,324 vacancies. Looking ahead, the Ministry projects another 50,000 appointments to take place in the financial year 2026–27.
Strengthened measures to ensure fairness
To uphold the integrity of the recruitment process, the RRBs introduced Aadhaar-based E-KYC authentication on an unprecedented scale, successfully verifying the identity of over 95% of candidates.
Additionally, mobile jammers have been deployed at 100% of RRB exam centres to prevent cheating via electronic devices—underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to a secure and merit-based selection process.
