RPF rescues 117 turtles on Utkal Express in Bhubaneswar

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel conducted a raid on Tuesday, and rescued 117 live turtles from the Bhubaneswar Railway station.

Bhubaneswar, May 1: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel conducted a raid on Tuesday, and rescued 117 live turtles from the Bhubaneswar Railway station. 

 

 Four persons, including one woman, have been apprehended in connection with the incident. The accused have been identified as Ajay Mohana, Bimal, Subhashish Parida, and Sushma Barik.

 

Acting on the tip-off about the illegal smuggling of the live turtles in the general coach of the Utkal Express, the RPF officers immediately searched the coach, and recovered the live turtles concealed within four bags.

 

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused purchased the turtles from a person in Birapurushottampur village for Rs 7200.
