Rourkela, Oct 10: In a major crackdown on corruption, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday morning apprehended a Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan while he was accepting a bribe of Rs15,000 from a local woman at Birsa Munda Chowk in Rourkela.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Israr, was posted at the Bondamunda RPF station. According to official sources, the jawan had been allegedly harassing a woman residing in the Bondamunda Railway Colony area. The woman, who collects and sells plastic bottles and other scrap materials for a living, was reportedly threatened by Israr with false charges and arrest unless she paid him the demanded amount.
Fearing retaliation, the woman agreed to pay the bribe but simultaneously lodged a formal complaint with the CBI’s Bhubaneswar office. Acting on the complaint, a CBI team laid a trap at Birsa Munda Chowk.
As Israr received the bribe money from the complainant, CBI officials on standby apprehended him on the spot. Following the arrest, the CBI team took him to the Bondamunda RPF station and conducted a search operation as part of their investigation.
Further legal action is underway, and the CBI is continuing its probe into the matter.
