Bhubaneswar, October 27: In order to increase the tiger population in Odisha, the state government has successfully translocated a Royal Bengal tiger from Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve to the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday.
A special team from Similipal Tiger Reserve traveled to Maharashtra for the translocation of a Rayal Bengal tiger from Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve to the Similipal Tiger Reserve forest.
Last week, a team led by Similipal’s Director, along with veterinary experts and a rapid response team, conducted a mission to Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, successfully transporting the tiger to its new habitat.
Earlier, Odisha government wrote to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), seeking approval for the translocation of tigers to strengthen Odisha's big cat population.
This relocation is part of Odisha’s larger initiative to enhance its tiger population, which includes plans to introduce five tigers: three for Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Bargarh district and two for Similipal Tiger Reserve.
