Bhubaneswar, January 16: A day after his lawmaker son Arvind Mohapatra was suspended from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), senior leader Bijoy Mohapatra on Friday smelt a conspiracy behind the decision taken by BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik.

Speaking to media persons on Friday in the city, Mohapatra said he did not know the exact reason behind his son’s suspension from the regional party.

On being asked whether there was conspiracy behind such action, the veteran leader said, “There may be a conspiracy.”

He, however, asked his son to work for the people of the Patkura Assembly constituency.

“I don’t know the reason. The party should spell out the specifics about the anti-party activities. I also don't know what sort of betrayal Arvind has committed. The people of Odisha are waiting to know. There may be a conspiracy. I would advise him to be with the people who have been with him and work for them and the development of the constituency,” said Mohapatra.

On Thursday, BJD president Naveen Patnaik ordered the suspension of two party MLAs - Arvind Mohapatra (Patkura) and Sanatan Mahakud (Champua), citing "anti-party activities."

Action against Mahakud was expected as he had been staying away from BJD activities and his growing bonhomie with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

However, Mohapatra’s case was different. It was alleged that he had differences with the BJD’s Kendrapara district organisation and failed to carry party workers along in the constituency.

Reacting to the action, Arvind, a first-time MLA, yesterday said that he was unaware of any wrongdoing and anti-party activities.

“I need to find out what anti-party activities I did,” Arvind said yesterday.

Bijoy Mohapatra said he was surprised. “I don’t know the reason. The party should spell out the specifics about the anti-party activities,” Bijoy said.
