Bhubaneswar, Nov 19: Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) has strengthened its enforcement and awareness efforts to curb unauthorised travel, resulting in the detection of a significantly high number of ticketless and irregular travel cases during October 2025.

During October, as many as 58,731 cases of ticketing violations were identified—a 5.4% increase over the same period last year. From April to October 2025, total violations rose to 4,41,106 cases, marking a 10% rise compared to 4,00,946 cases registered in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

Enforcement efforts have not only strengthened revenue protection but also discouraged passengers from travelling without or with improper journey tickets, thereby promoting responsible travel habits. The division collected ₹3,15,11,770 in fines in October 2025, reflecting a 23% increase from last year. Cumulatively, fines have reached ₹23,94,23,698, showing a 26% rise over the ₹18,97,29,010 collected up to October 2024. These measures further encourage passengers to travel with dignity and follow railway rules during their journey.

A total of 1,586 ticket checking drives were conducted and checks were carried out in 2,145 trains across the division. These sustained initiatives have contributed to higher compliance levels and a significant reduction in unauthorised travel.

Alongside strict monitoring, Khurda Road Division has undertaken widespread awareness campaigns through public announcements, social media messaging, and station-level outreach. Passengers have been consistently encouraged to travel with dignity and adhere to railway rules. Special teams, working closely with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), ensured efficient and coordinated enforcement across major stations and trains.
