G. Udayagiri records season's lowest as winter grip tightens across state

Winter has firmly settled over the state, with the mercury dropping significantly in the interior districts. According to the latest Odisha Weather Forecast released by the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar on Sunday, residents can expect the current chill to persist throughout the week. The weather department has indicated that there will be no large change in the minimum temperature (night temperature) across the districts of Odisha for the next 6 to 7 days.

Cold Grip Tightens in the Interiors

While the plains are experiencing pleasant to chilly evenings, the hill stations are freezing. G. Udayagiri emerged as the coldest spot in the state, recording a shivering low of 4.2°C. Following closely was Phulbani, which recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 6.0°C.

Other districts are also feeling the bite of winter. Semiliguda recorded 6.1°C, while Rourkela saw temperatures dip to 8.2°C. In contrast, Paralakhemundi recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 30.2°C, showing the stark contrast between day and night conditions in southern Odisha.

Fog Alert Issued

The Met Department has also issued a forecast regarding visibility. For the next two days (valid up to the morning of December 16, 2025), shallow to moderate fog is very likely to occur at isolated places. Commuters in the districts of Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Koraput should exercise caution during early morning hours due to reduced visibility. Recently, moderate fog was already reported in Rourkela and Bhawanipatna, with visibility dropping between 200 and 500 meters.

Twin City Weather Update

For residents of the Twin Cities, the weather remains comfortable but crisp.

  • Bhubaneswar: The capital city recorded a maximum temperature of 28.8°C and a minimum of 13.2°C.
  • Cuttack: The Silver City saw a high of 26.2°C and a low of 13.0°C.

Dry weather prevailed over most other districts, and with the night temperatures expected to remain stable, citizens are advised to keep their winter gear handy for the week ahead.
