Bhadrak, Nov 4: A tragic incident has been reported from Nandapatana village under Balimunda panchayat in Bhadrak district, where a three-month-old baby girl allegedly died after receiving a vaccine at a local Anganwadi centre on Monday.

According to sources, the infant, daughter of Rajaram Jana, was administered a polio vaccine around 11 a.m. at the Nandapatana Anganwadi centre. Later in the evening, the child reportedly developed a fever, which her family assumed to be a common post-vaccination symptom. Her mother fed her and put her to sleep. However, the next morning, the family found the baby unresponsive and not breathing.

The child was immediately rushed to the Basudevpur Community Health Centre, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the bereaved family filed a written complaint at the Nayakanidihi police station, alleging that the death was caused by the vaccine administered at the Anganwadi centre. Police have registered the complaint and launched an investigation into the matter.

Health officials are yet to comment on the alleged vaccine reaction, and the exact cause of death will be determined after further medical examination and inquiry.
