Puri, Jan 25: The rice and betel nuts collected from devotees from various districts of Odisha through the 'Arpan Rath' have been reaching Puri from Wednesday.
The rice and betel nuts collected from Jagatsinghpur and Debagarh districts reached Puri on first day. The rice sacks have been stored on the premises of Sri Gundicha temple.
Around 500 to 700 quintals of rice will reached every day, according to reports.
Srimandir administration and supply department officials are engaged in weighing of the collected rice.
The state government has taken initiatives to bring the collected rice, betel nuts and coconut to Srimandir after people across Odisha expressed their resentment to find that the ‘arua’ rice and betel nuts collected by the district administration through Arpan Rath are lying unused at several places.
The collected rice will be transported to Puri till February 19 and state police have been entrusted for security of the vehicles carrying it.
The collected rice, betel nuts and coconuts from two districts reached Puri on Wednesday. The Srimandir administration is receiving the donations, said Puri Sub-Colector Bhabataran Sahu.
