New Delhi, Dec 9: Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra was on Monday appointed as Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor for a period of 3 years, as per a notification issued by the DPoT.
Malhotra will replace Shaktikanta Das, the second-longest serving RBI Governor, after Benegal Rama Rau's seven year plus tenure between 1949 and 1957. Das’s current term is due to end on December 10.
Malhotra, a 1990-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, is currently serving as Revenue Secretary in the Ministry of Finance.
Malhotra brings over 33 years of experience across key sectors, including finance, and taxation.
An engineering graduate in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Malhotra also holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from Princeton University, US.
