Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: The Court of Special Judge for Vigilance awarded a two-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to Udayanath Swain, a retired Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Balinga Out-post under Hemgir police station in Sundargarh district in a bribery case.
After convicting him in the case, the Court also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on Swain. Failing to pay the fine would result in an additional three-month RI, said an official press release.
As per the release, the Court further sentenced Swain to one-year RI and slammed a fine of Rs 2,000 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, he would serve an additional two months of RI. Both the sentences will run concurrently.
