Khordha, Sep 11: A retired Headmistress of Odisha’s Khordha district has been convicted by Odisha Vigilance for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant.
The accused teacher has been identified as Basanti Devi.
Basanti Devi, Ex-Headmistress of UGUP School in Bada Nuagaon under Khordha district was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case vide Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar for demanding and accepting bribe from President of a SHG for preparation of their bill and submission of the same to the Block authority towards supply of materials for MDM( Mid-Day Mills) program in the School and drawl of payment.
She has been convicted by Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs.5,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) of PC Act, 1988. The Hon'ble Court further sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and payment of fine of Rs.5,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months more for the offence U/s 7 PC Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Basanti Devi following her conviction.
