Renowned Odisha Puppeteer Padma Shri Maguni Charan Kuanr passes away at 88

Padma Shri awardee and celebrated puppeteer Maguni Charan Kuanr breathed his last at his residence in Keonjhar after battling a prolonged illness.

Keonjhar, June 1: Padma Shri awardee and celebrated puppeteer Maguni Charan Kuanr breathed his last at his residence in Keonjhar after battling a prolonged illness. He was 88 years old.

According to sources, Kuanr had been facing health complications related to old age and was admitted to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition a few days prior to his passing.

Kuanr's significant contributions to the art world earned him the prestigious Padma Shri award, conferred upon him by President Droupadi Murmu last year. He was recognized for his lifelong dedication to preserving the ancient art form of rod puppetry and for his efforts in promoting the traditional rod puppet dance.

His demise marks a profound loss for Odisha's cultural landscape, as Kuanr's legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
