Boudh, Dec 12: Sanjaya Kumar Mallick, former In-Charge Headmaster-cum-Secretary of the School Management Committee (SMC) at Budhibalanda Project Upper Primary School (PUPS), Boudh Block, has been convicted in a vigilance corruption case and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for four years. In addition, he was fined Rs. 20,000.

The conviction was delivered today by the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani. Mallick was found guilty under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c) and (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Sections 409 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code, for misappropriating government funds allocated for the construction of the PUPS building at Budhibalanda, without carrying out the work.

Following the verdict, Mallick, who is currently serving as an Assistant Teacher at Gundulia Upper Grade High School (UGHS), Boudh Block, was taken into judicial custody to serve his sentence.

Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will move the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the dismissal of Sri Mallick from his current government service in light of his conviction.
