New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar, February 19: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sasmit Patra expressed regret over the controversy surrounding Galgotias University and its display of a "robodog" at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

He called the incident "unfortunate," stating that it diverted attention from the otherwise positive atmosphere of the summit.

Patra described the episode as a setback, urging both the government and educational institutions to treat it as a learning experience. "It’s unfortunate to see a respected university like Galgotias make such a blunder," he said, emphasizing that the controversy shifted the focus away from the summit's achievements.

The controversy arose after Galgotias University allegedly showcased a "Chinese robodog" at the summit, claiming it as their own invention. The issue sparked backlash from opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Pawan Khera, who criticized the Union Government and the summit’s handling of the situation.

In response, Galgotias University issued an apology, assuring that corrective measures would be taken.
