Puri, July 4: While the Grand Road in Odisha’s Pilgrim City Puri is floating with sea of devotees during the world famous Rath Yatra festivities, the HDFC Bank Currency Chest in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) floats a Mega Coin Mela at the Grand Road, in a bid to facilitate vistors need to barter crafts, spiritual items and home needs, from the trade fair organised alongside the annual Yatra.
The HDFC Bank Currency Chest here provided comprehensive exchanges to the traders and devotees in need, with coins at its special teller-lines set up here aiming the massive crowd during the Bahuda Yatra, scheduled on July 5.
The Mela was inaugurated by RBI Seniors in the presence of State Tourism higher officials on Friday.
Apart from money exchange, different awareness program was conducted here about Indian Currency Notes through booklet, videos and discussion among the crowd gathered on the Grand Road.
Thousands of people including the traders and brand outlets, exchanged their old or mutilated notes with Coins and fresh notes from the teller-line installed by the banks here on the Bada Danda for a period of two days.
Local small traders and senior government officials visited the counter and appreciated the efforts of innovating banking during the mass gathering.
In a significant transaction, an amount of Rs 47.5 lacs was exchanged during the 2-day Coin Mela, where general public, petty traders and makeshift vendors were benefitted and sensitized of the validity of coins and soiled currencies what they usually think useless due to denial in the day-to-day shopping.
Among others, Senior RBI official Bhaskar Singh and Subhrajit Pattnaik, HDFC Bank State Head Odisha Suraj Chettri, HDFC Bank Zonal Head (Audit) Snehasish Saha, Circle Head Deepak Pattnaik, Cluster Head Akshay Mishra and Currency Chest Head Sambit Mohapatra, were present on the occasion.
