Bhubaneswar, January 9: The Odisha State Cabinet has approved a proposal allowing the state government to release the Central share of funding for the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) from its own resources. This step is aimed at ensuring the continuous funding for ongoing JJM projects, with the Government of India set to reimburse the amount later.

The advance release mechanism will ensure that critical activities, such as construction and commissioning, proceed without delays. This move also prevents the demobilization of contractors and agencies, safeguards public investments already made, and avoids cost overruns. It is key to maintaining progress toward the 'Har Ghar Jal' targets and ensuring the credibility of the state’s implementation framework.

This temporary financial measure addresses the gap between expenditure and the receipt of central funds, imposing no extra financial burden on the state. Once the central funds are received, the arrangement will be fully reconciled in accordance with standard accounting procedures.
