Puri, Jan 12: A woman died at the Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on Monday, two days after undergoing a C-section, leading her family to allege medical negligence. The deceased, identified as Rosalin Parida from Damodarpur village in Kanas Tehsil, had the surgery on January 10 due to concerns over low amniotic fluid.

According to her father, Gangadhar Parida, Rosalin’s condition initially appeared stable after the surgery. However, her health deteriorated on Monday morning. "When I reached the hospital, no treatment had been initiated. The staff even asked me to sign a blank paper stating that my daughter’s condition was serious, which I refused. Now, I want justice," he said.

Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Akshaya Satpathy described the incident as "unfortunate." He clarified that Rosalin had previously delivered one child, and had experienced three miscarriages. “She was stable post-surgery and was kept under observation. On Monday, she was transferred to the ward. Preliminary reports suggest she fell while sitting on the bed and may have suffered a heart attack, which led to her death. A detailed investigation will be conducted,” Satapathy added.

The family has expressed dissatisfaction with the hospital's handling of the case and is demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to Rosalin Parida’s death.
