Bhubaneswar, Oct 24: Glittering pandals and huge effigies of Ravan are ready for Ravan podi on Dussehra. At least six Ravan effigies will be torched in the city. The celebrations will be huge at six places namely Baramunda, Nayapalli, Ganga Nagar, Jharpada and Rasulgarh.
As per Deputy fire officer Abani Swain, the spectacular event, which marks the end of the Durga Puja festival, will be held in Baramunda, Jharapada, Koradakanta,Naharakanta, Chhatabara and Tomando areas of Bhubaneswar.
The event will mark the end of the nine day long Dussehra celebrations.
An adequate firefighting arrangements has been done to prevent any mishap or untoward incident during the spectacular event.
Worth mentioning, Ravan Podi is celebrated on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami, which is considered the day of the victory of goddess Durga over the demon king Mahishasura after a nine-night, ten-day long battle. It is also believed that lord Ram killed demon king Ravan on the day after offering his prayers to Goddess Durga.
