Bhubaneswar, February 6:Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi commended the Odisha Police for their significant efforts in reintegrating 19 Maoists into the mainstream, marking a pivotal step towards the Naxal-free India initiative. Majhi praised the force’s dedication to bringing militants back into society and reiterated the importance of peace and development in combating insurgency.

Today, 15 Maoist cadres from the Bansadhara-Ghumsar-Nagavali (BGN) Division voluntarily surrendered before the Rayagada police. Among them were two state committee members. In addition, four cadres from the Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) Division, all holding Party Member (PM) status, surrendered to the Kandhamal police. CM Majhi hailed the efforts of the state police in facilitating the rehabilitation of these individuals.

The Chief Minister emphasized the state’s rehabilitation scheme, which offers surrendered militants government assistance and ensures a dignified reintegration into society. He urged active militants to abandon violence, stressing that peace and development offer a brighter future for all.

Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania also spoke about the recent successful operations that have dealt a severe blow to Maoist activities. He noted the significant number of arrests, surrenders, and the recovery of large caches of weapons, ammunition, and explosives. The DGP appealed to remaining Maoists to renounce violence and take advantage of the government’s surrender and rehabilitation program, which provides financial support, security, and a chance for a peaceful future.

Khurania assured that Odisha Police would continue their efforts until the state is completely free of Maoist influence.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has set a target to eliminate Maoist and Naxalite activities by March 2026. In alignment with this goal, Odisha Police are actively working towards achieving these targets.
