Bhubaneswar, Aug 7: The Ministry of Home Affairs has appointd Rashmi Ranjan Swain, a senior IPS Officer from Odisha as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir. The appointment comes following his tenure as the acting DGP since November 2023, succeding Dilbag Singh upon his retirement.
Rashmi Ranjan Swain, a member of the 1991 IPS batch, has a distinguished career that includes serving as the Special DG CID and heading the police forces in both Jammu and Srinagar cities. His extensive experience spans over 15 years on central deputation, where he held various crucial roles.
Originally from Roukela city in Odisha, Swain has held significant positions such as SSP in Jammu and Srinagar capitals, as well as SSP in Leh, Poonch, and Ramban districts. He also served with the J&K Vigilance agency from 2004 to 2006 as Assistant Inspector General and Deputy Inspector General of Police. His career highlights include a prestigious international posting reserved for officers recognized for their exceptional expertise.
Swain's appointment as DGP of Jammu and Kashmir is effective immediately and will continue until September 30, 2024, or until further orders are issued.
