Baripada, Oct 18: An Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) of police and a home guard, posted in the Jamda police station in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district were held on Wednesday for allegedly abusing two minor girls sexually.
The accused ASI has been identified as Anand Majhi whereas the Home guard is Debananda Patra.
“The duo were booked under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. Further investigation in both cases is being carried out on priority,” said Mayurbhanj SP B Gangadhar.
Police sources said ASI Anand Majhi (39) started living with a 16-year-old girl, who reportedly worked as a maid at his place, after his wife’s death some months ago. He was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl’s aunt, claiming that she was a minor.
Similarly, Home guard Debendra Patra (35), had allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl from Jharkhand on October 12 on the pretext of curing one of her relatives using ‘black magic’. He took her to a secluded place and forcefully raped her frightening her and saying that she would die after disclosure of the fact.
