Bhubaneswar: Racing from the back, Rakesh Roshan Pradhan emerged champion of the Green Baize Classic Snooker Championship, defeating Ashutosh Padhy 5-3 at Vintage Club here on Saturday.
Ashutosh got a brilliant start by defeating Rakesh in the first set by 76-04. However, Rakesh made a comeback by winning 2nd and 3rd sets by 53-18 and 44-41.
Ashutosh again 4th and 5th set with 75-34 and 57-29. Rakesh kept his nerves cool and scripted continuous three wins in the last three sets 44-24, 58-46 and 53-50.
The champion Rakesh Roshan Pradhan received the trophy along with a cash award of Rs 25,000. Ashutosh Padhy got the trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 12,500.
The semi-finalists Subrat Das and Abinash Mohapatra received Rs. 6000/- each and quarterfinalists received Rs 3,000 each.
Highest break prize of Rs. 5000/- went to Ashutosh Padhy for his brilliant 76 in the first frame today. Most promising player award went to Nishi Prakash Das. He qualified to the main draw, hit a 60+ break and displayed terrific temperament during the tournament
