Mumbai, Mar 2: Producer Boney Kapoor has expressed his excitement for the upcoming sequel of Mom, which has already begun filming at the newly inaugurated International Film City along the Yamuna Expressway near Greater Noida. The film, titled Mom 2, marks the first project to be shot at the state-of-the-art film city, and Kapoor is enthusiastic about the project's progress and the new facilities.
Speaking to ANI, Boney Kapoor shared key details of the sequel, which is directed by Girish Kohli, who was also the writer for the original film. The cast includes Bengali actor Jishu and television and movie star Karishma Tanna in significant roles. "The shooting of Mom 2 is going on here. The director is Girish Kohli, who wrote Mom I. The producer is myself and my partner, Akshai Puri. The action director is Vijayan from the South, one of the most accomplished action directors. We have technicians from different places. We also have Jishu, an actor from Bengal, and Karishma Tanna, a television and movie actor, playing a very important part in the film," said Boney Kapoor.
The film is the inaugural project to be filmed at the new International Film City, which promises to be a world-class entertainment hub. "Our effort is to make sure it (Film City) is different and elaborate in every sense. Besides the film city, there will be a theme park and many entertainment sections that will probably surprise many. We will also create podcast sets, and everything related to entertainment and media will have a base here," Kapoor said during a press conference for the inauguration.
In addition to Mom 2, Kapoor announced that OTT projects will be allowed to shoot free of charge on the Film City sets. "Yes, but only on this set. This set is a good luck charm. It's an incentive for other producers to come and for us. The more people who benefit from this, the more attention it will get, and the more discussions will happen about this film city," he added.
Boney Kapoor also expressed gratitude to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting the initiative. "I am thankful to God, to Yogi ji, and to Modi ji for giving me this opportunity to build something of value. I aim to make this International Film City even bigger," said Kapoor.
The International Film City is seen as a historic step in making Uttar Pradesh a hub for both national and international film production. The project is expected to generate approximately 500,000 direct and indirect jobs and attract substantial investment while promoting the state’s rich cultural heritage.
Mom, the original film released in 2017, starred the late Sridevi, with Pakistani actress Sajal Aly in the lead role. Mom 2 aims to continue the emotional and gripping narrative of its predecessor.
