Bhubaneswar, November 11: Odisha Government has launched its first-ever Mahanadi Boita Pratiyogita 2025, held on the picturesque banks of the Mahanadi River near Gadagadia Ghata in Cuttack. The two-day event, which kicked off on Tuesday, saw spirited participation from men's and women's teams from 10 states, including Odisha.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida marked the official opening of the competition, underscoring the state's dedication to preserving and promoting traditional water sports as a key part of its cultural heritage. She also revealed exciting plans to elevate the boat race to an international platform in 2026.

The standout attraction of the event, the Fly Boat Race, took the spotlight, leaving the audience in awe as competitors raced along the Mahanadi. Races continued on the second day, further intensifying the excitement. Strict safety measures were enforced, with four dedicated rescue teams stationed along the river to ensure the well-being of participants and spectators alike.

The event will culminate with a felicitation ceremony, where the winners will be honored by Odisha’s Governor, Hari Babu Kambhampati.

The Mahanadi Boita Pratiyogitais part of the ongoing Baliyatrafestival, which this year revolves around the theme"Cuttack in Cuttack—Celebrating Odia Language and Literature."Cuttack Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde highlighted several key initiatives, including the distribution of one lakh books to children and the launch of an Experience Zone, dedicated to showcasing Odisha's ancient trade routes. TheBaliyatrais further enlivened with spectacular performances from both Bollywood and Hollywood artists, alongside a series of cultural exhibitions and environmental awareness campaigns, making this year’s festival a vibrant celebration of Odisha’s rich heritage.
