Bhubaneswar, July 31: Rain continues to lash Odisha, with most regions recording normal precipitation. However, rainfall patterns remain uneven, with seven districts experiencing excess rainfall, while four continue to face a deficit, according to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Districts facing deficient rainfall include Puri (34%), Ganjam (24%), Kalahandi (20%), and Gajapati (3%). On the other hand, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar have witnessed a significant 49% surplus, followed by Deogarh (48%), Boudh (38%), Jharsuguda and Sonepur (31%), and Sambalpur (24%).

A cyclonic circulation has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Gangetic West Bengal and the Odisha coast. Under its influence, widespread rainfall is expected across various parts of the state, said Dr. Sarat Sahu, Director of the SOA Centre for Environment and Climate.

The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh districts on Thursday. Additionally, several other districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati are likely to experience thunderstorms with rainfall, accompanied by winds blowing at 30–40 km/h.
