Bhubaneswar, July 31:There is no flood situation in Odisha yet, said Engineer-in-Chief, Bhakta Ranjan Mohanty on Wednesday.
Responding to the media query Mohanty said, rainfall across the state has almost reduced. At the same time, water level in dams and reservoirs of the state has also depreciated due to less input of water from the upper catchments.
Earlier, taking stock of the flash flood in the Malkangiri district following the incessant downpour triggered by the low pressure-turned depression, Mohanty said most of the southern districts have witnessed heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours. However, no inhabitation has been inundated so far apart from a number of low-lying roads and bridges.
Underlying the water level of major dams and reservoirs Mohanty said that Hirakud, Balimela, Rengali, and Indravati reservoirs are yet to receive million cusecs of water as they mark much lower than their capacities.
“We will expect more input to the dams and reservoirs in the next two days which will be more phenomenal in serving farmers and boost hydropower generations”, Mohanty said.
On the preparedness to tackle flood situations if any, Mohanty said that all the flood control rooms are operational from June 1. Concerned officials are keeping vigil on the escalation of the water levels of the reservoirs on a regular basis.
