Mumbai, Dec 10: The shooting of the highly anticipated biographical film V. Shantaram, based on the life of the iconic filmmaker, has officially begun. Siddhant Chaturvedi has been cast in the role of Shantaram, who was not only a celebrated film producer but also a social reformer and visionary artist in Indian cinema.

Tamannaah Bhatia will play the lead female role, portraying Shantaram’s wife, the legendary actress Jayshree. The film’s new poster, released on Tuesday, features Tamannaah in a pink saree, evoking memories of a bygone era.

Jayshree, a renowned actress and singer, began her career in Gujarati theater before making a mark in Indian cinema. She collaborated with Shantaram on classics such as Shakuntala, Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani, Dahej, and Parchhaiyan. Tamannaah described stepping into her character’s shoes as “a huge responsibility,” noting Jayshree’s enduring influence on Indian cinema.

“She was a prominent personality of her time, and the grace and dignity with which she carried her work continue to inspire,” Tamannaah said.

The film is directed by Shirish Deshpande, promising to offer audiences a deep and engaging glimpse into the life and legacy of one of Indian cinema’s most influential figures.
