Hyderabad, July 11: Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday announced three proposed high-speed bullet train corridors connecting Hyderabad with Pune, Chennai, and Bengaluru, describing the initiative as a major step toward transforming the city into a high-speed rail hub.
Speaking to reporters after the HYSEA GCCS & IT Roundtable at the Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre, Vaishnaw said the proposed corridors would strengthen regional connectivity, boost economic growth, and reshape the urban landscape of Hyderabad.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given three high-speed bullet train corridors to Hyderabad. The routes from Pune to Hyderabad, Hyderabad to Chennai, and Hyderabad to Bengaluru will be game-changers for the region. Hyderabad will emerge as a high-speed hub, driving large-scale development and integrating the economies across these regions," the minister said.
Vaishnaw also highlighted the Centre's focus on electronics manufacturing, noting that Telangana has benefited significantly from government initiatives aimed at expanding the sector.
"More than 100 electronics manufacturing companies have been promoted under the Government of India's electronics manufacturing programmes, with Telangana emerging as a major beneficiary. In addition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allocated a railway budget of Rs 5,400 crore for Telangana, which is accelerating infrastructure development across the state," he said.
During the roundtable discussion, the minister provided an update on the nationwide redevelopment of railway stations under the "Nav-Nirmaan" programme. He said work has been completed at 261 stations across the country at what he described as an unprecedented pace.
In Telangana, redevelopment projects are progressing at key stations, including Secunderabad, Begumpet, and HITEC City, as part of the broader railway modernisation initiative.
Speaking about the redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station, Vaishnaw said the project presents unique engineering challenges because train operations continue uninterrupted throughout the construction period.
"Unlike many countries where railway traffic is suspended during redevelopment, we have to carry out the work while trains continue to operate. We are constructing an air concourse over all the platforms with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and careful execution," he said.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy and BJP Telangana State President N. Ramchander Rao were also present at the event.
