Ahmedabad, March 8: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called on party workers and former local election candidates to work on rebuilding the party’s relationship with the people of Gujarat. In a speech at the Samvaad program in Ahmedabad, he urges Congress workers to earn the trust of the general public.
Gandhi acknowledged the party's challenges in the state, where Congress has been out of power for nearly 30 years, and emphasized that regaining public trust is crucial.
Emphasizing Gujarat's historical role in India's independence, Gandhi urged the party workers to once again become a guiding force for the state. He also addressed internal issues within the Gujarat Congress, noting that some leaders are disconnected from the people. He called for action against those not aligned with the party’s core values, including those secretly supporting the BJP.
Gandhi criticized the current state leadership, stating that Gujarat's businesses, farmers, and industries were struggling. He asserted that the Congress party could offer the change and vision needed. However, he emphasized that the party must reconnect with the people to bring about that change.
Drawing from his Bharat Jodo Yatra experience, Gandhi urged Congress leaders in Gujarat to engage directly with citizens. He also reminded party workers that the opposition already holds 40% of the vote in the state, and a small increase in vote share could change the political landscape.
