Cuttack, Feb 9: A radiologist in Odisha’s Cuttack has been held on Friday for allegedly performing sex determination tests.
The accused has been identified as Dr. Punyaslok Das.
Odisha Health Department officials along with local police raided the premises of Dr Punyashlok Das in Friends Colony and arrested him on charges of performing illegal sex determination tests on pregnant women.
At the same time, the team also rescued a female patient from Das’s clinic and seized abortion pills, an ultrasound machine, and a huge cache of cash from his possession.
Sources said Prashant Kumar Samal, ADM (F&W), Cuttack, acting on a tip-off, raided Dr Punyashlok’s residence at Freinds Colony and found several indiscriminating documents related to illegal sex determination.
A case will be registered against the offender on the charges of breaching the PNDT Act and a recommendation will be sent to the H&FW department for the termination of his medical license.
