Quintals of 'Olati’ fish caught from sea in Kendrapara

Kendrapara, Sept 13: The fishermen of Kendrapara district on Wednesday were all smile after quintals of Olati fish was harvested with ease from the bay here in the Mahakalapada area.

The truck-loads of the Olati fish were sold out on the spot and exported to West Bengal and abroad, for its unique texture and taste.

Sources said that, a group of fishermen from the Jambu area had ventured into the Bay of Bengal for jetty fishing at the Madali and Chataka confluences near the Hukitoal village in early in the morning. Meanwhile, quintals of the Olati and fassi  fish were captured in the nets with a little effort, not so far from the   seashore.

The voluminous hoards of the two species of fishes caught the onlookers’ and local’s views as the attractive-looking fish were amassed on the sand.

After the big catch, the fish traders retailed the fish with the local vendors, local consumers and deported the surplus fishes to the Paradip Port for export, the sources added.

According to the local fishermen, the Olati and Fassi fishes are two delicious species for its bony texture. It is of high demand in typical Odia and Bengali delicacies.
