Kendrapara, July 29: A quack was arrested in Kendrapara town on Sunday who was operating a diagnostic centre and clinic posing as a gynaecologist during a joint raid by health department, district administration and police.
The accused, Amul Kumar Nayak (49), had been running Aryan Diagnostic Centre and Clinic on Medical Road since 2018 without any medical degree of official permissions.
Nayak failed to produce any medical degree or registration documents for his clinic. He had been treating patients without authorisation since 2018 impersonating as a doctor.
The police charged him under multiple section 319(2), 318(4), 336(2), 338, 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), section 16 of the Odisha Clinical Establishment Act, 1990, and section 34 of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, 2019.
He was produced in court on Sunday and remanded in custody after bail plea got rejected.
Such raids will continue in the district to find out quacks treating patients and diagnostic centres operating without registration and official permission, said a health department official.
