Moscow [Russia], September 10: Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit India from September 11 to 13 to attend the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, with a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and an address at the BRICS Business Forum among the key engagements on his itinerary.
According to the Kremlin, Putin will undertake a working visit to India as BRICS marks its 20th anniversary. The main summit will be held in New Delhi on September 12 and 13 under India's chairship.
Putin is scheduled to address the plenary session of the annual BRICS Business Forum on September 11. The forum traditionally precedes the leaders' summit and provides a platform for business representatives from BRICS nations to discuss economic cooperation.
On the same day, Putin will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi and jointly visit the INNOPROM exhibition, organised by the industry and trade ministries of Russia and India.
The visit is expected to give fresh momentum to the India-Russia strategic partnership, with trade, investment, economic cooperation and connectivity likely to figure prominently in the discussions.
Russia's state-run TASS news agency, quoting presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, reported that Putin is expected to present initiatives covering trade, economic, investment and transport cooperation during the BRICS Business Forum.
Ushakov also said Putin would hold several bilateral meetings with leaders attending the summit. He described the meeting with Modi as an important engagement that could provide a fresh boost to economic and trade ties between the two countries.
Moscow has also highlighted the close personal ties between Modi and Putin. Ushakov said Russia attaches significant importance to the relationship that has developed between the two leaders.
He further indicated that Modi could visit Russia in 2027 if his schedule does not allow a visit before the end of this year, saying Moscow's "door is open" for the Indian Prime Minister.
Putin's visit is expected to include a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, alongside his participation in the grouping's key business and leaders' engagements.
