Puri, July 13: Ahead of the Bahuda Yatra in Odisha’s Puri shrine, Lord Jagannath’s chariot, the Nandighosh has turned southward on Saturday under the Dakshina Moda rituals.

After performing a number of traditional co-rituals, the core servitors accompanied by scores of devotees and temple administration officials, the Nandighosh Rath was parked near the Nakachana Dwara(Nakachana Gate) of the Shree Gundicha Temple facing towards the Jagannath Temple today.

Earlier on Friday, the chariots of Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra were turned southward with performing the pre-rituals fixed for it.

The Dakshina Moda ritual is specifically associated with the change of directions of the decorated chariots. Following the the Rath Yatra, the chariots are parked in front of Gundicha Temple facing north. However,for the return journey, the chariots are turned southward that is facing towards the Jagannath Temple, hence the name 'Dakshina Moda' or southward turn.
