Puri, Aug 13: Puri police have launched an investigation after threatening graffiti warning of a potential terrorist attack on the Jagannath Temple was discovered on the walls of the Budhi Maa Thakurani temple near the Balisahi entrance of the Parikrama Marg on Wednesday.

The graffiti, found in two locations, mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and included alarming messages like “Terrorists will destroy the temple,” along with phone numbers and instructions to call. In addition to the graffiti, locals reported that decorative lights in the area had been damaged.

The incident occurred in a high-security section of the Parikrama Marg, an area under 24/7 surveillance with CCTV cameras and strict security. Residents voiced concerns over how such a breach could occur unnoticed, citing previous complaints that several high-end surveillance systems in the area remain non-functional.

Security around Srimandir has been under intense scrutiny in the past, with both the Union Home Ministry and the National Security Guard (NSG) recommending tighter security measures. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from operational cameras and are ramping up security to protect one of India’s most revered religious sites.
