Kandhamal, Jan 27: Panic spread across areas in the G. Udayagiri block of Odisha's Kandhamal district after a wild boar attack left three people injured, one of them critically, on Monday. The incidents occurred in the Lingagada panchayat area, near Srikala Ghat.

According to reports, 35-year-old Sasmita Mallik, from Dakapala village, was traveling home with her husband, Bapi Mallik, on a motorcycle when their vehicle broke down near Srikala Ghat. While Bapi was fixing the bike, a wild boar suddenly emerged from the nearby forest and attacked Sasmita, inflicting serious injuries.

In a separate incident in the same locality, 60-year-old Apsari Pradhan and Niranjini Pradhan, also 60, from Kanabagiri village, were attacked by the wild boar while collecting firewood in the forest. Apsari suffered severe injuries, with deep wounds on several parts of her body.

Following the attacks, the wild boar fled the scene. Local residents quickly came to the aid of the victims, transporting them to the G. Udayagiri Community Health Centre. Medical staff provided first aid, but Apsari was later referred to Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital due to her critical condition. The other two injured women are reported to be stable and are receiving treatment at the G. Udayagiri health facility.

The attacks have raised alarm among local villagers, who are urging the Forest Department to take immediate action to prevent further incidents involving wild animals in the area.
