A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 2.9 was recorded in the Vijayapura district of Karnataka on Wednesday morning. The event was confirmed by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). Officials quickly moved to reassure the public. The earthquake occurred at 7:43:38 AM. Its epicenter was located at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers. The precise location was 2.5 kilometers northwest of Hattarkihal village in the Basavana Bagewadi taluk of Vijayapura district.

According to the KSNDMC, the tremor was of low intensity. Any vibrations might have been felt within a radial distance of 50 to 60 kilometers from the epicenter. The center's statement emphasized that this type of minor seismic activity is not expected to create any harm to the local community or structures. The epicenter is located in Seismic Zone III, and the region does not have any major structural discontinuities according to tectonic maps.
